Finally, the 2017/2018 English Premier League season has began with interesting results been recorded already. Going into today’s game a lot has been made of the defending champions Chelsea’ thread bare squad which has made the coach Antonie Conte very uncomfortable because of the many competitions they will be involved in, particularly the Champions league this season.
The game began with both sides showing their intent to exact authority over the contest however, Chelsea were the better side early on. On the 14th minutes, Chelsea Captain Gary Cahill was shown a straight red card for a two footed reckless tackle on a Burnley player and Burnley smelled blood.
On the 23rd minutes, Burnley made their numerical advantage count with Sam Vokes scoring the opener to stun the Stamford Bridge faithfuls. Meanwhile Chelsea continue to dominate possession albeit with no breakthrough.
From the 35th minutes, Chelsea were beginning to struggle to have their foothold on the game and were been be pegged back into their own half by the very adventurous and determined Burnley midfield players. On the 38th minutes left back Steve Ward doubled the lead for Burnley with a rifle of a shot.
Would you believe it? yet again on the 41st minutes, Sam Vokes made it 3-0 to the bemusement of the watching public. Is the Bridge coming down? Wow! What a game.
Half time. Believe it or not the defending Champions Chelsea trailed Burnley 3-0 at home. It was a 45 minutes to forget for Chelsea.
Chelsea got the second half under way but little suggested their resurgence. 48th minutes, Alonso’s pile driver was tipped over by the Burnley Safe hands and Chelsea took a corner but no respite still.
Marcos Alonso on Chelsea’ left side threatened again. He got his team a corner and a penalty shout in the space of 2 minutes.
58th minutes, Morata replaced Batshuayi. I must say that i was surprised when i saw the later starting ahead of him. In matter of seconds, Morata drills a shot over the bar.
60th minutes, Heathon in Burnley’s goal forced a save from a Marcos Alonso’s free kick. A great ball in from Willian and Alvaro Morata the 70 Million pounds man scores on the 68th minutes to reduce the deficit and opened his Premier League goal account.
Burnley on 74th minutes made their first change. Scott Arfield just off the bench got booked on 76th minutes. A minute later David Luiz was booked for dissent.
On the 80th minutes Fabregas got a second yellow card and he was sent off. Chelsea played on with 9 men. Big big problem now for Antonie Conte and his team who faces Tottenham next week and Everton to come after then.
87th minutes, Morata played on Luiz and he made it 3-2. Quickly, at the other end Antonio Rudiger was booked, a free kick was awarded for Burnley at the edge of the box and they nearly scored with the right far post standing in the way.
90 minutes, + 4 minutes added time.
Full time whistle and Chelsea are beaten by Burnley 3-2, what a thrilling match!!
